Student Success Stories
Jenny Senter, owner and Founder of Celtic Heritage Destinations, has had a lifelong love of travel and history. In her role as administrative secretary at the local county office of education, she found her favorite part of the job was arranging travel and organizing conferences for staff and teachers. She heard about the online courses in Travel Marketing through Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, CA and she decided to take a few courses in order to better understand the travel industry.
As a mid-life career changer, the LMC Travel Program was invaluable to me in building a foundation of knowledge about the travel industry. I was able to take the online classes at any hour of the day or night, which fit into my unpredictable schedule perfectly. I had never taken online classes before, and was somewhat skeptical about the format. I found that I could not only achieve my learning and knowledge goals, but could also develop personal relationships with other students and the instructor through the Discussion Board forum. When needed, I could even have a private "chat" or telephone call with the instructor(s). Finally, the practical value of the classes was priceless.
Lynn Rudin has always enjoyed travel and has the fondest memories of trips her family took when she was growing up. Though they traveled often, they had never taken a cruise. As soon as Lynn took her first cruise to Alaska, along with her husband and three sons, she fell in love with the cruise experience. After she returned from that ship, she simply couldn’t get her mind off cruising. One day, at a birthday gathering, she spoke to a travel agent who had been on 50 cruises, and Lynn knew that she wanted to be able to look back some day and say the same thing. Lynn immediately began searching for travel training programs and found the Los Medanos College Travel Marketing program.
After designing exhibitions as a curator at art museums in the Northeast for several years, Lisa decided to make a career change. Her ambition was to open a travel business with her husband, Steve Jermanok, a longtime travel writer with the Boston Globe and many other publications. Lisa sought out a way to learn the ins and outs of travel and to create a business plan that could serve as an excellent foundation for her travel business. Los Medanos was the perfect solution because it allowed her to learn how a travel agent works, study destinations around the world, create her business plan and make meaningful connections with others who were passionate about travel.
